Wake the Dead

by Taylor Gray Moore

Wake the dead!
Make them good,
for a night,
make them live.
Wake the dead,
make them quiver
with sadness and lust
and joy!

Wake the dead!
We are only sleeping!
Feed us, clothe us,
give us drinks,
take us to that loveless state
that burns us rough
as a drunkard’s lust —

Wake the dead,
we are only sleeping!
